- 7 mother-of-pearl buttons, 1.5 cm

STITCHES USED

GAUGE
10 x 10 cm in garter stitch with needles 3½ = 25 stitches and 50 rows
EXECUTION
Note: Back and front are worked in one piece until the start of the raglan armholes.
With needles 3½, cast on 132 stitches and work in garter stitch.
When work measures 21 cm, divide for raglan armholes as follows:
- Right front: 33 stitches
- Back: 66 stitches
- Left front: 33 stitches
Continue working only on the 66 back stitches, leaving front stitches on hold.
Decrease at sides, inside 2 stitches from edge, on each right-side row: 1 stitch, 24 times.
Note: For decreases, knit 2 stitches together.
When work measures 9 cm from start of armholes, for neckline bind off the remaining 18 stitches.
Right Front
Pick up 33 stitches for right front and continue, decreasing on left side, inside 2 stitches from edge, on each right-side row: 1 stitch, 24 times.
Note: Knit 2 together for each decrease.
When work measures 7 cm from start of raglan, for neckline bind off on right side at beginning of rows: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, 1 stitch twice.
When work measures 3 cm from start of neckline, bind off remaining 2 stitches.
Left Front
Pick up 33 stitches and work as right front, reversing shaping.
SLEEVES
For each sleeve, with needles 3½, cast on 38 stitches and work in garter stitch.
When work measures 4 cm, increase 1 stitch at each side, 1 stitch from edge, every 12 rows, 8 times. Total: 54 stitches.
When sleeve measures 24 cm, for raglan armholes, decrease at sides, inside 2 stitches from edge, on each right-side row: 1 stitch, 24 times.
Note: Knit 2 together for each decrease.
When work measures 9 cm from start of raglan, bind off remaining 6 stitches.
FINISHING
Front Edging
With needles 3½, pick up 65 stitches along right front, work in garter stitch.
On 5th row, work 5 round buttonholes as follows: 2 stitches, (1 buttonhole, 12 stitches) 4 times, 1 buttonhole, 5 stitches.
Work 4 more rows, then bind off on next row.
Work left front the same way, without buttonholes.
Sew seams with mattress stitch. Close underarm and raglan seams.
Neckline
With needles 3, pick up 74 stitches around neckline, excluding edges.
Work in garter stitch for 28 rows and place stitches on hold.
With needles 3, pick up 14 stitches along 28 rows on one side, knit the 74 held stitches, pick up 14 stitches along other side. Total: 102 stitches.
Work 2 rows in garter stitch, then on 3rd row bind off.
Sew these 3 rows’ edge to the center of the front opening edges on both sides.
POCKETS
Right front: 6 cm from bottom and 9 stitches from edge, pick up 16 stitches with needles 3½, work 26 rows in garter stitch, then bind off.
Sew pocket sides.
Repeat on left front.
BACK STRAP (MARTINGALE)
With needles 3½, cast on 12 stitches, work in garter stitch for 10 cm, then bind off.
Place martingale across back, centered, 10 cm from bottom, and sew with a few stitches at corners.
Sew 2 buttons on martingale, one on each side, 1.5 cm from edges, also attaching to back to secure.
Sew 15 buttons along left front, matching buttonholes.
Fold first 4 cm of cuffs to the right side.
